“The boss of a wedding shop needed a bodyguard to protect her from angry brides when they were left without dresses after the business went into liquidation.” – full report in the Guardian, UK.
Who says brides are feminine, demure, and all the other pleasant adjectives that go with them?
At a creditors’ meeting, the owner was met with “seething brides”. Some had ordered their wedding dresses months beforehand, and had to dish out additional money to make new dresses when they were left high and dry when the shop closed. One bride reported she was ‘hysterical’ on learning on the internet that had the shop closed.
So…grooms or otherwise, take the advice of the liquidator who was quoted – “I think getting a bodyguard was possibly the correct decision for her. Don’t mess with brides is all I can say.”

Are brides supposed to be feminine and demure?
And who determines that these are pleasant adjectives.
Men’s idealized notion of “a blushing bride”.

Sorry, that wasn’t meant to be a personal attack. I was just feeling my cynical ol’ self.

Oh, don’t fret, Charis – you did not offend me one bit, and no apologies needed. I am just glad you offered your truthful opinion – and not tiptoe round niceties, which never gets anyone anywhere. Thanks for dropping by and posting a comment, Charis.
Actually, the sentence was not crafted by me…haha…I copied and pasted it – it was a blurb from another of Guardian’s website leading to the article.
I think the author of that sentence was not expressing a reality – more of the aura and romance surrounding weddings, brides, bridegrooms, etc. He was making a tongue-in-cheek comparison with the romantic view of brides and the ’seething brides’ who turned up to confront the shop owner.
There is a whole lot of romance surrounding weddings, isn’t it?
I am sure you are/will be caught up in it too when the time comes! :O)
‘Blushing brides’? now…there’s not many of those around any more, I have to agree…………
